Below we have outlined the
steps to take when uploading your Website with Fetch FTP client
designed for use with Mac computers.
Before you start, you will
need to gather three important pieces of information which are located
on your hosting365.ie Welcome Message:
- The FTP IP address of the server that will hold your pages
- Your username
- Your password
If you no longer have these
pieces of information, please let us know so that we may re-send
your Welcome Message. Always include the last four digits of your
credit card for identity verification when requesting confidential
information such as this.
To start:
- Choose the 'New Connection' command from the 'File' menu.
- Enter the FTP IP Address, Username, and Password in the text
fields, but leave the "initial directory" field blank.
- Press 'OK'. If everything goes well you will see a list of the
files in your web directory. Otherwise you will need to correct
one or more of the pieces of information.
- Once you are connected, choose the 'Put Folders and Files' command
from the 'Remote' menu to upload your web page files. If all of
the files are in one folder, you can navigate to that folder and
use the 'Add All' button to add them to the list of items to be
uploaded. Otherwise you can choose files one by one. You can also
add folders to the list of items to be uploaded.
- Next you will be asked what formats to use for the transfer.
You want to choose "Text" as the format for text files, and "Raw
Data" as the format for all other files (such as images). Then
press 'OK' to begin the transfer.
- Once the pages have been uploaded you should check them with
a web browser such as Netscape Navigator. Enter the URL in the
browser's 'Location' field and check to make sure that all your
images show up, and that all the links work. If there are problems
you should double-check your HTML tags to make sure that they
have the right file references. Please note that the homepage
of your site needs to be called one of the following file names:
- index.htm
- default.htm
- index.html
- default.asp
Please note if your homepage
is not labeled one of the names listed above, you will not be
able to see your site. When you have labeled your homepage appropriately,
please make sure that your homepage file is in the root directory.
The homepage file must remain outside of all your folders, so
do NOT keep your homepage located in a folder within your root
directory. CGI scripts may need to go in a folder called "cgi-bin"
which you can create in the root directory.
