If you wish to download a
copy of AbsoluteFTP you may do so at the following link:
http://www.vandyke.com/download/absoluteftp/index.html
The following instructions
are for AbsoluteFTP:
1. Open AbsoluteFTP by double
clicking on the icon on your desktop.
2. Your first step should
be to bring up the Connect screen shown below. If it does not automatically
appear, please choose 'Connect' from the File menu to bring up the
"Connect" window.
3. Click the 'New Session'
toolbar button. This is the icon second from the left shown on the
screen above. The screen shot shown below indicates the screen that
should appear once you have successfully clicked on "New Session".
In the Host address box you
should enter in the appropriate FTP server IP address for your domain
name. This is available in the Welcome To Hosting365.ie! message
you received when you signed up. The port should be set to "21",
the FTP port, by default. If it is not, you should enter this manually.
When you have entered in this information, click "Next".
4. At the next screen, make
sure that you un-click the "Anonymous login" option
as it will be selected by default. Once you have done this you will
be able to replace the anonymous login information with both your
username and password. This information should also be in your Welcome
To hosting365.ie! message. Once you have entered the appropriate
information, click 'Next'.
5. Click the 'Next' button
to bypass the initial directory page, as the FTP program will automatically
log you in to your website directory in NT and your home directory
in UNIX.
6. You may give your session
a name at the following screen. This will server as a "friendly"
name and will be used strictly for identity purposes. Click the
'Finish' button when a name (and description, if you wish) is entered.
7. Once you click on "Finish"
the following screen will be generated. Notice that your new session
has been saved under the "Personal" folder using the name you entered
above in "Session name". You may now either double click on this
highlighted icon or click on the connect icon - two buttons over
from the left of the top of the screen.
If you cannot connect (i.e.
it says user cannot login) please double check your FTP address,
username and password given on your Welcome To hosting365.ie! message.
8. Once logged into your
account you may upload files in the manner described below.
For UNIX Users - You will see that the name of
your account on your host.ie web server is "/html". This directory
is called your home directory . The first folder
represents your website directory . You
will need to place all files you would like to have displayed on
the web in this directory. Simply double click on the
link to this directory in the right hand column to generate the
folder. Double click again on the folder to gain access.
Please see the instructions
on how to upload files below.
Transferring Files:
We have included two methods
for transferring files to your Website. If you would like further
information on these processes or any others, please see the help
topics of your downloaded AbsoluteFTP program as they are very helpful.
- Drag & Drop: using the left mouse button,
click on the icon for file you want to transfer and continue to
hold down the left mouse button. While still holding down the
left mouse button, move the mouse cursor so that it is positioned
over the right-hand pane (where the folder contents are shown)
of the remote window. Release the left mouse button to "drop"
the file on the remote window.
or
- Cut & Paste: select/highlight the files
that you want to transfer. Choose the 'Copy' item from the 'Edit'
menu. Then, select the folder/directory in the remote window to
which you want to upload the files. Then, choose the 'Paste' item
from the 'Edit' menu.
A separate window should
appear that shows the progress of the transfer.
When the transfer completes,
the target window will automatically refresh and the transferred
files should be visible in the right-hand pane of that window.

Tips:
Be sure to name the homepage
of your website, index.htm, index.html, default.htm or default.asp
and keep it directly in your website directory. If your homepage
is in a sub-folder, then it will not be displayed. Also remember
that you will need to wait until your domain name is either registered
or transferred before you will be able to see the results by typing
http://www.yourdomain.com in a browser. You will not be able to
view your site by IP address.
Please note that there is
an extensive online help section in the menu of options under "help"
if you have further questions on how to use AbsoluteFTP and its
features.
