If you would like to configure
Netscape mail to download your hosted POP email, please follow the
directions below. You will need the following information:
- A POP email account which you have have setup in your control
panel (ex: [email protected])
- The POP (incoming) mail server listed on your Welcome to hosting365.ie!
message (eg: mail.yourdomain.com)
- The SMTP (outgoing) mail server (ex: mail.yourdomain.com)
- The password to the POP email account
In this example we configure
Netscape mail to retrieve mail form the fictitious, hosting365.ie
POP email account: [email protected]. The POP server is mail3.hosting365.ie,
the SMTP is smtp.yourdialupcompany.com and the password is password
Now, on to the configuration!
1. Open the Netscape browser
and click on Edit-->Preferences... The following
screen should be displayed:

2. Under Category
on the left hand side of the screen open the Mail
& Newsgroups folder. The important sub-categories
to configure are Identity and Mail Servers. The
other sub-categories under Mail & Newsgroups
are optional, and you may fill them out later to customize certain
settings. Lets start with Identity by clicking
on this setting.

3. Under Your name
place the name you would like to appear as the friendly
name the name attached to your email address that will displayed
in the "From" field along with your email address. Example (friendly
name in red):
John Smith [[email protected]]
4. You need not enter a Reply-to
address unless you want people to reply to an email address different
that [email protected].
5. The categories Organization
and Signature File are optional this
is where you may enter your company, ID files, or electronic business
cards.
6. Now you are finished with
the Identity setting. We can now move onto the
Mail Servers setting.
7. In this setting we configure
both incoming (POP) and outgoing (SMTP) mail servers. Click on
Mail Servers and the following screen will be generated:

8. Under Incoming
Mail Servers click on Add and the screen
below will be generated.
9. Enter your incoming host.ie
assigned POP mail server under Server Name. You will find this information
on your Welcome To hosting365.ie! message that you received when
you first secured your account. In our example, the POP server is
mail3.hosting365.ie. Note that this is most likely not your
assigned mail server - please check your Welcome message to determine
your assigned mail server.
10. Under Server
Type select “POP3 Serverâ€
instead of "IMAP Server".
11. Under User Name
place the email address for which you are configuring
the account with a % sign instead of the @ symbol.
In our example it is "sales%yourdomain.com."
12. Check the Remember
password field if you do not wish to re-enter your password
each time Netscape checks for new mail.
13. Select the box at Check
for new mail every ___ and then specify the number of minutes
between mail checks. If you do not select this box, new mail will
not appear until you click Get Msg or the Inbox
icon on the component bar of Netscape Messenger. Check the Automatically
download any new messages field if you wish this to be
the case when downloading email.
14. Click OK.
15. The next step is to configure
the Outgoing Mail Server.
16. Under Outgoing
mail (SMTP) server you should enter your dial-up SMTP
server. Please contact the company that is providing you with Internet
access for this information.
17. Under Outgoing mail server
user name place the email address for which you are configuring
the account. In our example we use [email protected].
18. You should be finished
with your Netscape Mail configuration. Click OK to confirm the profile
that you have set up.
19. You may check your messages
and verify that you have correctly configured Netscape Mail by clicking
on Messenger under the Communicator
Netscape menu category. Once Messenger is open you may click on
Get Msg and key in the password for the POP email
account. Netscape will then download the mail from our mail server,
and you may begin to send and receive email using the Netscape Mail
POP client.
If, for any reason, you are
unsuccessful retrieving email when clicking on Get Msg ,
please double check your settings as the problem most likely lies
in using:
- a misspelled username and password or
- an incorrect incoming mail server.
We hope this information
helps. If you have more questions about Netscape and its capabilities,
please check with NetScape at: http://help.netscape.com/products/client/communicator/index.html
