i am thinking of hosting one (and if everything goes well - eventually all 4) of my sites here. so there are several questions (all of them related to windows/asp hosting):
first two questions relate to the requirements of two little web directories i own:
1. is it possible to run scheduled tasks on any of windows virtual hosting accounts? if so, what are limitations?
2. is it possible to use http connections (i.e. provided by MSXML2 library) from asp code?
then all the rest:
3. do you support jsp on windows accounts?
4. saying "multiple domains" (2 on basic plan, 6 on professional), do you mean multiple ip addresses pointing to multiple directories?
5. do you limit outbound traffic only? or both inbound and outbound?
6. do you assist moving dns records etc. for existing domains from another (foreign) hoster?
thank you,
azh |

Hi Azh!
We manually set up scheduled tasks on windows hosting on request, you simply send us in a ticket and we can set it up, within reason.
There should be no issues I am aware of with MSXML2 use with ASP.
We do not support JSP on windows at this time.
Multiple domains, mean that, for example with the professional plan, you can host and manage 6 unique virtual sites in the same account, each with its own settings, logs, etc.
We do not limit inbound traffic.
We will provide you with assistance as required to organise the dns changes with your domain, but you will be required to do the actual changes (unless you want to give us access to the domain)
Hope that helps!

thank you for such a rapid answer!
excuse me for taking your time, but i need some more clarification:
> There should be no issues I am aware of with MSXML2 use with ASP.
i was mostly concerned about being able to initiate outbound HTTP requests through XML-HTTP functionality of MSXML2. basically, the question is "does your firewall allow such requests to go outside?" (i need it for directories to be able to check if links are alive).
> Multiple domains, mean that, for example with the professional plan, you can host and manage 6 unique virtual sites in the same account, each with its own settings, logs, etc.
fine. would they be distinguished by domain names only or by ip addresses as well?
my point here is this: instead of getting 4 separate virtual servers, i would get a single one, hosting all 4 sites, but i don't want any users or robots trying (for some strange reasons) to access one of them by ip to miss the site he/she/it wants.
> We will provide you with assistance as required to organise the dns
> changes with your domain, but you will be required to do the actual

all sites (as well as their dns records) are hosted on other hoster across the ocean, so i don't have a direct control over their dns servers. my understanding that i should mail them and ask to cancel the service, but it is not clear for me, what should i do to arrange moving the dns records to your server.
two more questions:
does any plan allow to use my propriatery vb/activeX components, and if so, how is it organized technically?
is it possible to upgrade an account plan? so if i take a basic account to host a single site (assume i pay for a year) and then, after month or two upgrade it to proffessional one. what costs are involved in that case?
thank you again for your attention to my requests,
azh |

Hi Azh,
There is no outbound HTTP restrictions.
Multiple domains, are defined by Domain Name, they share the same IP (unless you purchase dedicated IP's). They are seperate virtual sites, as defined by IIS on Windows.
For the domains, you would set-up with us, upload your sites and test to ensure functionality, set-up email, etc, then modify the nameservers for the domain names. This is done at the domain registry you used. This ensures minimal or no downtime for your sites as long as your current host is up and running during the transition.
You can upgrade and downgrade at any time, the system will refund you the unused portion of your account pro-rata on a daily basis, and apply the refund to the new account charge. For example, if you paid 129.95 for a Basic plan, then 6 months wanted to switch to business, the system would refund you approximately 64.98 (half the Basic fee) and then apply that to the Business charge of 199.95, meaning you would pay 134.97 for a years hosting at business level.
Hope that is clear!

Afraid not, we only support JSP on dedicated platforms currently. |

thanx.
it's a good reason for me to consider a rack365's special offer.
btw, have i understood correctly, do you charge exra 100 euro a month for setting up windows on the "special offer" dedicated hosting, so it becomes in the region of 160 instead of 60 euro a month? |

You can supply us with your own W2K key, otherwise we must charge for licensing |
