Politics.ie chooses 365
Posted on 2005-01-06

Dublin, Ireland, Leading Irish Political Site, Politics.ie, has partnered with Hosting365.ie to provide robust, secure hosting following the site’s unprecedented success. Founded in February 2002 following general elections in Ireland, its popularity led the original US hosting company to threaten to pull the plug unless owner manger David Cochrane paid more than $1,000 a month for a new server!

However, the rapid growth in numbers visiting the site far exceeded initial expectations. Once we started to hit 10,000 visitors a day, the US Company said we had to pay for our own server or they would cut off our service.

“At that point I contacted Dan King in Hosting365 who agreed to provide Politics.ie with all the support and resources it needed – at a fraction of the ransom demanded by the US company.”

Cochrane credits the Irish based hosting company with not only saving his website but allowing it and him to continue to prosper. “We are now averaging 15,000 visitors a day and that number is growing steadily,” he says. “The support we have had from Hosting365 has been exceptional. Any issues or queries we might have are answered in a very timely fashion – unlike the couple of days we often waited with the US Company.”

Politics.ie was formed as the brainchild of David Cochrane. A self confessed political hound, he wanted to provide a portal for up to the minute political news in Ireland. The main political parties all provide media releases and news feeds while the discussion boards offer plenty of heated debate. The main attractions of the site are two-fold: the official live news from government and all political parties; and the unofficial content derived from the lively and comprehensive discussion forums for hacks and politicians alike.

In addition, the site provides headlines to Google News, Moreover and Newsnow which means that the site content is covering by thousands of other news sites around the world. The last laugh goes to Cochrane who often uses the humorous tag line: 'Politics.ie - your lazy TDs worst nightmare!’
